Italy is of course, not short of artists making serious and sincere contributions to the sphere of electronica. His success with Gianclaudio H. Moniri as PLASTER aside, Giuseppe Carlini’s first sonic experiment as Agan offers a journey into both the aesthetic and shifting reality of how we connect with the world we live in. Ecological symmetry and the environment were central to the production and creative process: the music is dedicated to the nature reserve that encompasses Lago di Vico (Lake Vico) in the Northern Lazio region of Italy. As the world and our fragile environment is faced with more serious threats it’s important to recognise the underlying premise of these records that seek to bridge the discord between humanity and our home. The evolving energy that each track substantiates could be interpreted as intricate pathways that have an emotional response in common. That’s subjective, but it’s worth reflecting on.

Irrespective of what you take away from it, it’s a voyage from the aesthetically beautiful, to the cognitive schisms and back again. This release over at the Stochastic Resonance imprint was built on a concept that comes from a deep place in Carlini’s mind and an ideal shared on the label as a whole. These concepts have predominantly resulted in ambient textures, though occasionally low level rhythms infiltrate ‘Ritual Shaft’ and ‘Fluid Perceptions’. The pick of the record for us is ‘Flying in a Blue Dream’ – if you are into ambient, it’s worth it just for that alone.
