Label: Ostgut Ton
Title: Frantic EP
Release Date: 8th, October 2012
Berghain resident Marcel Fengler will return to the Ostgut Ton imprint with the three track Frantic EP, set for release next month.
It’s the German producer’s first release with the Berghain/Panorama in-house label since last year’s Berghain O5 mix CD, a rugged session that combined wiry 90s minimalism and chord-heavy classics with drones and broken beats. Although he retains a more humble profile to his Berghain peers Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann, Fengler has continually displayed a diversity to both his DJing and production work, with his most recent solo EP for Ostgut, 2010′s Enigma, caught somewhere between human spontaneity and machine-led precision.
Since then Fengler has also released materiel with Luke Slater’s Mote Evolver imprint (2010′sThwack) and launched his own label, IMF, with last year’s Sphinx EP. The three tracks that make up Frantic are characterised by insistent loops, with sumptuous synth arrangements coating the rugged drums in a melodic sheen that sets him apart from his Berghain brethren.
