As promised last week, here are the details of Adam’s guest appearance on Australian National radio, Saturday 21st March.

Triple J’s Mix Up dance show has long been heralded as the leader in upfront, underground, leftfield and downright wicked grooves from 10pm on a Saturday night right through to the early hours of Sunday morning.
This Sat (14th) you can hear Russian minimalists SCSI-9 (Kompakt), post Colours appearance (13th @Empire, Brisbane). Expect things to be minimal in every sense of the word from the days prior to its mainstream exposure. Tweaky, stripped back and blissful.

Following Adam’s closing set at the SCSI-9 appearance in Brisbane, Adam has been invited to appear on the Mix Up show just one week later. Sat 21st will see Adam’s third appearance on Triple J’s flagship weekend dance experience. Having been over 4 years since his last interview and guest spot in 2004, he has a lot of ground to cover so expect a showcase of eclectic techno, driving percussion and hypnotic beats.

Friday June 13th on Old Street in Clerkenwell (London) at a quaint little Japanese bar saw the inception of the London leg of Kana take flight.

For a new crew in a strange, bustling city, ‘Kana presents…’ brought about what we’d like to think of as a fresh and unique vibe to the long established scene in London. With more than 200 supporters for a venue capacity of 100, the club bar was nothing short of rammed all night long. Despite the lack of seating, smiles were all around as friends and associates from the Dim Sum boys in Shoreditch, Ralphie and the boys from AMPT Productions (Brisbane) and our mild mannered, ever modest techno enthusiast the Russian Linesman (Nottingham) came together to create an atmosphere nothing short of buzzing! Everyone got along, drank and were quite merry until the wee hours of 2:30 when we had clearly pushed our limits past the 2am closing time.

In an effort to stand out form the pack, despite a delicious mix of funky house and rhythmic techno, the venue was given a proper face lift by our in-house architect, Mark Sciberras (& friends… you know who you are.. thanks so much for the help in setup!). A spiderweb of triangular frames were strung up in an array of fractals to guide you from entrance to dance floor, right down to reside behind the dj booth. Our special guest VJ direct from Brisbane on a world tour of European hotspots was our very creative Suspended Animation. His visuals took an abstract approach to projection art, blending scattered, real world imagery with a twisted yet intelligent layer of animation reminiscent of new age cult classics such as ‘A Scanner Darkly’ and ‘A Waking Life’. Sprayed across the ceiling installations, all the way down the walls and throughout the crowd, the venue looked absolutely alien to the square, concrete confines of the bar which lay dormant at curtain close.

One of the most intriguing moments of the night was situated around a certain sneaky little corner where some of our good friends had installed living artistic display of modern technology. In short, those who received a txt msg or phone call during the night in close proximity of the wall installation were dazzled by an array of colours flashing in response to the mobile activity. I’m sure many were perplexed as to the purpose of styrofoam cups suspended on a solid wall, connected by an intricate cohesion of paperclips.

To those who made it, especially all who lasted to 2am, the Kana crew extend to you a massive thank you! The night would not have been the same without you.

Stay tuned for the next occasion of Kana karma, in motion for the end of summer this September.

Much respect,

Adam & the Kana crew.

—————
March 2008
—————

Kana spreads its wings from Brisbane to London

After 3 highly successful events in Brisbane under the moniker ‘Ok Kana’, the Kana Corporation have landed in London.

To kick things off we’ve prepared a delicious evening of house infused techno at a cute little bar on the well known Old Street in Clerkenwell. The venue is downstairs of a sushi bar/shop/restaurant called Life, and will be themed in a manor unique to the Kana branding. To top things off, there will be happy hour drinks from 5pm-9pm and the headline act is direct from Nottingham, the Russian Linesman. Check¬†www.myspace.com/russianlinesman¬†for some of his more ambient original works, but for June 13th, he will be dishing up a late night set of dancefloor techno.

In more recent news, Kana have been hard at work forging one of the best new established nights at Brisbane’s favorite venue, the Moon Bar at the Empire. ‘Colours’ has been one of the fastest rising nights in Brisbane since Drop first broke its Empire cherry. Having clocked up the likes of Alex Smoke, Pig & Dan and Supermayer, there is only one way forward for the rest of 2008!

If that wasn’t enough, Kana teamed up with Brisbane promoters Logic to present a night with Joris Voorn. If you haven’t already heard his name in regular mention on the techno scene, its no doubt you will very soon. The night at Bar Soma in Fortitude Valley showed Brisbane what a true master of techno will do with a few cdjs, two turntables and a mixer.

More to come from the Kana crew soon…
